Breaking news in the NHL as former Edmonton Oilers defenceman Cody Ceci has been traded to the Dallas Stars.
Well folks, it's looking like the Edmonton Oilers might be seeing a lot more of Cody Ceci as he now belongs to the team the Oilers defeated in the 2024 Conference Final.
As per TSN, The San Jose Sharks have traded forward Mikael Granlund and defenceman Cody Ceci to the Dallas Stars on Saturday in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick and a 2025 conditional third-round pick.
The third-round selection will revert to a fourth-round pick if the Stars fail to reach the Stanley Cup Final.
Ceci, 30, has four goals and 15 points in 54 games with the Sharks this season while averaging 21:46 of ice time.
The 6-foot-3 right-shot defenceman is on the final season of a four-year, $13 million deal with an annual cap hit of $3.25 million. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, The Dallas Stars are paying a premium price of a first round draft pick to acquire two rental players who aren't particularly on the high-end. This looks to be a great deal for the San Jose Sharks.
Oilers fans know Ceci well from the three seasons he spent in Edmonton between 2021-2024. In his time as an Oiler, Ceci played top four minutes alongside Darnell Nurse, creating a problem pairing for the team. In 54 games this season, Ceci has 4 goals, 15 points, and a -9 rating.
