Well folks, Alex Chiasson is officially hanging up his skates after a respectable career in the NHL.
During preseason, Alex Chiasson was invited to the Detroit Red Wings training camp on a PTO. The veteran winger hasn't played in a year, last playing for the aforementioned Red Wings in the 2022-23 season.
While he made every attempt to resurrect his career in the Motor City, the Red Wings ultimately decided to let Chiasson walk after an unsuccessful PTO.
During his last NHL stint, he played 20 games for the Red Wings and scored nine points, six of which were goals.
Chiasson has always been a good net-front option on the powerplay, and he proved that by earning 2:39 a game on the man advantage.
Chiasson spent three seasons with the Oilers between 2018 and 2021, and actually had a career-best 22 goal season with Edmonton.
The 6'4 winger had the ability to play physical and score goals around the front of the net, but consistency was always an issue for him.
Chiasson announced his retirement after remaining unsigned last last season. With a sudden change of heart, he spent the summer getting back into shape with hopes of keeping his NHL career alive.
After months of looking for another opportunity Chiasson has officially called it quits on keeping his hockey hopes hopes alive.
