Breaking news in the NHL as the Pittsburgh Penguins have officially placed forward Jesse Puljujärvi on waivers.

This news comes as no real surprise as Jesse Puljujärvi seems to have fallen out of favour with head coach Mike Sullivan over the past few weeks.

After an impressive training, Puljujärvi was never truly able to transition that into the regular season as he was relegated to the 4th line and frequently healthy scratched.

According to Ryan Hall of Oilers Daily, During the pregame media scrum, Taylor Haase of PGH asked the question too why he was scratched and Sullivan explained that Pujujarvi needed to grasp and understand the team concept and focus on the details.

»A lot of it is just details. Understanding the team concept, doing his job, whether it be forechecks or rush coverages or D zone coverage. There's a number of different things.»
- Mike Sullivan

Puljujärvi also came into the 2024-25 campaign fresh off a double hip surgery, a procedure notirously difficult to come back from.

Through 21 games this season, Puljujärvi has managed 3 goals and 5 assists and posts a -2 rating on the ice.

While its uncertain what lies ahead for the Finnish forward, i'm sure Oilers fans are rooting for him.
