Recently, Bob Stauffer dropped a bombshell, hinting that the Edmonton Oilers were closing in on signing veteran forward Brandon Saad. Now, new reports from insider Frank Seravalli contradict Stauffer's reports, revealing that the Oilers are no longer front runners to acquire the veteran forward.

Recently, a significant move by the St. Louis Blues has sent shockwaves down the NHL as veteran forward Brandon Saad hit the waiver wire. In a shocking twist, Brandon Saad opted for contract termination to re-inject life into his dwindling hockey career.
By terminating his contract, Brandon Saad walked away from a significant amount of cash -- millions to be exact.
Hockey analysts around the league have been making bold predictions about Saad's future, claiming Edmonton would be the perfect destination for the former Stanley Cup Champion.
Now, new reports from Frank Seravalli indicate that the Edmonton Oilers are no longer interested in pursuing Brandon Saad.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, the interested teams in signing Brandon Saad are the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vegas Golden Knights, New Jersey Devils, and Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Oilers have been linked to acquiring a tough, versatile forward for their bottom six. Brandon Saad could've filled that role - 32 year old two-time cup champion has been a solid power forward and penalty killer in his career - but the Oilers won't be pursuing him.

This season Brandon Saad has only 7 goals and 16 points in 43 games - a far fall off from last year's 26 goals. At $4.5M in salary, the Blues were doing anything possible to get rid of him.

Personally, I think it's for the best. The Edmonton Oilers are currently the 2nd oldest team in the league, and adding a player in the twilight of his career might not be optimal for the Oilers post season efforts.
Saad has struggled to put up numbers offensively this season, and GM Stan Bowman is far better off utilizing his accrued cap space on a top-4 defender come trade deadline.
