In a recent interview with Daniel Nugent-Bowman, Edmonton Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson admits a hard truth behind Philip Broberg's departure from the team.

It's no secret by now that the Edmonton Oilers lost Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to the St. Louis Blues over the offseason via offersheets.
I'm sure the fanbase has grown sick and tired of constantly hearing about it, but the storyline continues to take unexpected twists and turns.

Recently, Jeff Jackson revealed that the Edmonton Oilers failed Philip Broberg due to a systemic issue with their player development.

I think ultimately it comes down to the player just probably not having trust in the organization.
- Jeff Jackson

The practical reality is when you send a player to the minors for the third or fourth time in three years, they're not in the frame of mind to sign an extension at that point We didn't have a player development department, per se back then. There wasn't a plan»
- Jeff Jackson

Jeff Jackson explains that the team was in a constant cycle of sending Broberg down to the minors, resulting in a lack of trust between the two parties.
Simply put, the Edmonton Oilers never gave Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway enough time to develop in the big leagues.
Unfortunately, it wasn't until the 2024 post season fans got a true glimpse of their potential, but it was already too late.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Jackson and the Oilers are going to learn from this costly mistake moving forward, which a much heavier focus on prospect development and clearly communicating with them.
»We really have to buckle down from this point forward and make sure that players are developing and entering the team at the right time, they know where they fit, they know what their development plan is»
- Jeff Jackson

Although the Edmonton Oilers aren't stacked with farm system prospects, they still have 3 breakout candidates regarding Matthew Savoie, Sam O'Reilly, and Beau Akey.
As it stands, Jeff Jackson is doing everything he can to make sure his past mistakes don't repeat themselves moving forward.
