It's a bittersweet day for Zach Hyman to say the least. Although the Oilers ace has been cleared to return to the ice from injury, he recently found out that he's been left off the Team Canada roster ahead of the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament.
It's no secret that Zach Hyman hasn't exactly had an ideal start to the 2024-25 NHL season.
Zach Hyman has also missed the last 5 regular season games due to an undisclosed injury suffered against the Ottawa Senators.
Recently, Team Canada GM Don Sweeney issued a statement, hinting that players who weren't selected should stay ready in the event of injuries or other unforeseen circumstances.
This message by Don Sweeney has presented a small glimmer of hope for Zach Hyman, but the Oilers sniper is still a long-shot to make the team.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Zach Hyman has been mired in a brutal scoring slump early this season, only notching 3 goals in 20 games after scoring 54 last year - a drop off that may have scared away Team Canada. Still, Hyman could've fit perfectly with the checking identity in Canada's bottom six.
As it stands Zach Hyman is focused on helping the Edmonton Oilers secure a much needed bounce-back victory tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
