Breaking news in Oil Country as Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jesse Puljujärvi has cleared waivers, but a ominous cloud now hovers over his head.
Just yesterday, it was announced that Jesse Puljujärvi hit the waiver wire due to his overall lack of production this season.
Although Jesse Puljujärvi had a strong debut to the 2024-25 season, he soon faced challenges and ended up being healthy scratched on a regular basis.
NHL teams has the chance to acquire Puljujarvi as a depth forward, but no one claimed him, and it's looking like he may soon join Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, If Puljujarvi can't crack a lower tier Penguins team this season after they signed him to a two-year contract with the intention of rehabbing him through hip surgery, it's clear that they don't think he's good enough to be an NHLer anymore.
As a free agent at the end of the season, it's hard to imagine another team giving him a chance. At this point, a return to pro hockey in Europe may be in the cards for Puljujarvi.
To be fair, Puljujarvi was coming off a double hip surgery, a procedure that is notoriously difficult to come back from.
Head coach Mike Sullivan frequently scratched Puljujarvi due to his inattentiveness to the game's finer details, and it seems that his career may be nearing it's end.
Through 21 games this season, Puljujärvi has managed 3 goals and 5 assists and posts a -2 rating on the ice.
While Jesse's career in the NHL faces uncertainties, i'm sure all fans in Oil country are rooting for him.
