Kasperi Kapanen kicks off his Edmonton Oilers tenure with a strong start
The Edmonton Oilers are one of the hottest NHL teams heading into the holidays, and they have waiver-wire pick up Kaperi Kapanen to thank for it.
Although the Finnish forward hasn't exactly set the the world on fire offensively, he's been a steady presence on the top-6, with timely contributions when needed.
While Kasperi Kapanen has faced a ton on criticism both on, and off the ice, he hasn't let his dark past creep into his new opportunity.
The Edmonton Oilers made a significant roster move by claiming Kasperi Kapanen on waivers, a former first round draft pick who has immediately entered the Oilers lineup.
With that being said, Kapanen has carved himself a comfortable spot on the Oilers roster beside Leon Draisaitl and Kaperi Kapanen, and he's brought value to the team with his dynamic speed a play-making abilities.
Should the Edmonton Oilers keep Kasperi Kapanen?
The Mattias Janmark extension might be a comparable for Kapanen. The Oilers signed him to a three-year deal worth $1.45 million per season. If Edmonton can get Kapanen on a two-year around $1.25 million, it would be a wise gamble.
If Kasperi Kapanen continues his strong play and Draisaitl favors his presence on the line, retaining him could be a strategic move for the Oilers. Around $1.25 million is fair money, given where the salary cap will go, and the Oilers will need contracts they can maneuver around.
-NHL Trade Rumor So far, Kasperi Kapanen has notched 3 goals and 1 assist through 14 regular season games.
Kasperi Kapanen will look to continue his strong performance when the Edmonton Oilers take on the LA Kings on Saturday December 28th.
