Edmonton Oilers insider Alan Mitchel has recently posted an intriguing article on the Athletic, suggesting that prospect Phil Kemp's time with the organization is nearing it's end after playing just one NHL game.

According to Mitchel, The Edmonton Oilers may benefit from moving on from Kemp after an underwhelming tenure with the franchise.

»It's time to try to find his place in the sun with another NHL team. Desharnais stole his lunch, Broberg skated off with the headlines and all Kemp did was play well without ever getting a chance to play NHL defence.

It's time for Phil Kemp to go.

According to Ryan Hall of Oilers Daily, With the Edmonton Oilers searching the league for defensive help, Kemp has been with the organization since 2017 and has only made one appearance in the NHL when they played against the Montreal Canadiens in 2024.

He was drafted by the Oilers in 2017 in the seventh round. He has seen his share of coaches and general managers as the Oilers have gone through five coaches which include Todd McClellan, Ken Hitchcock, Dave Tippett, Jay Woodcroft and now Kris Knoblauch.

Mitchel goes onto explain that Kemp's opportunities have been overshadowed by the emergence of former Edmonton Oilers blue-liners Vincent Desharnais and Philip Broberg.

Phil Kemp never really got a fair chance to prove his worth, and a trade could be mutually beneficial for both Kemp and the Oilers moving forward.

I think it's fairly safe to say that the Edmonton Oilers don't exactly have the best track record when it comes to developing their future players.

Recently, Edmonton Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson admitted that, and the organization's previous mistakes may have costed Phil Kemp an opportunity to shine in the big leagues.

Fans have taken to social media to voice their frustration over the situation, stating that the Oilers should waive Travis Dermott and give Phil Kemp an opportunity as the 7th defenceman.

Rumours are swirling about a potenital blue-line acquisition at the NHL trade deadline, and it's hard to imagine a world where Kemp cracks the starting roster anytime soon.
