According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Taylor Haase of DK Pittsburgh Sports indicated General Manager Kyle Dubas has everyone available for trade except Sidney Crosby.
This fire sale comes as no surprise as the Pittsburgh Penguins have been one of the more dissapointing teams to start the 2024-25 NHL campaign.
Currently sitting at a 6-9-2 record, the Pittsburgh Penguins are ranked 24th in the NHL standings, and Kyle Dubas is clearly trying a drastic move in attempts to salvage the season for his team.
It's no secret by now that the Edmonton Oilers are currently in the market for a top-4 D-man in order to bolster the team's back-end.
With that being said, analysts recently indicated that the team should focus on bringing in a shut downblue-liner with, and one candidate of the Pittsburgh Penguins fits the bill perfectly.
The Oilers have previously been connected to Penguins defenceman Marcus Pettersson. The 28 year old left shot defenceman is an effective two-way defender with over 400 career NHL games. With a lower salary of only $4.025M, the Oilers could afford him.
Ultimately, the success of the trade hinges on GM Stan Bowman's ability to get the job done. If he can seamlessly make the transition, the Oilers could see a significant boost to their defensive performance, increasing their chances of Stanley Cup contention.
