Three Edmonton Oilers face tough reality about team Canada's roster selections
The hockey world is gearing up for the 4 Nations Face-Off set to happen in February, but 3 Edmonton Oilers players will soon face a hard truth.
The Team Canada roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off is set to be released tomorrow, and TSN insiders Pierre LeBrun and Chris Johnston have the inside scoop.
As it stands, LeBrun and Johnston have these players as a lock to make Team Canada's roster instead
Reinhart - McDavid - Marner
Marchand - Crosby - MacKinnon
Hagel - Point - Stone
The sense is that that role is more likely to be given to Cirelli, who regularly kills penalties and like Hagel, has the trust of the Lightning coaching staff. Bennett's gritty game and Stanley Cup pedigree also hold appeal, while Konecny's versatility and strong start caught the attention of management.
- The Athletic
As per Liam McCormick, on defence, the locks for Canada are reported to be: Cale Makar, Alex Pietrangelo, Shea Theodore, Devon Toews, and Travis Sanheim.
In goal, Team Canada is expected to be going with Jordan Binnington, Adin Hill, and Samuel Montembault.
While Montembeault's numbers may not have popped this season playing behind a Montreal Canadiens team that has had its defensive struggles, he's believed to have been tabbed for the No. 3 role.
- The Athletic
As disappointing as this may be for Oilers enthusiast, a few factors played into their demise on Team Canada's roster..
Simply put, all three players have had a serious decline in overall performance compared to the 2023/24 season. Unfortunately - all 3 haven't been good enough for international level consideration.
