The Edmonton Oilers have recently placed Derek Ryan on waivers, and fans are beginning to wonder if his time in the NHL is over. In a recent interview, Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch hints at what lies ahead for the veteran forward.

While Derek Ryan has proven to be a reliable 4C during his tenure with the Oilers, it appears that father time has finally caught up with him.

Now that Derek Ryan has successfully cleared the waiver wire, Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch provides fans some insight as to what the organization has in store for him.

Derek Ryan to report to Bakersfield Condors

»I believe there will be a time when he's back playing with us. What the timeline is, I have no idea. With injuries, it could be next week it could be months down the road. He'll report sometime to Bakersfield, and we'll move forward from there.» - Coach Knoblauch

As it stands, Derek Ryan will report to the Oilers farm affiliate in Bakersfield.

According to Ryan Hall of Oilers Daily, Other pundits including Alan Mitchell thinks that Ryan will need to take some time and figure out what he'd like to do going forward in his career as he'd either spend time with the Bakersfield condors becoming a mentor for all the young players or hanging up his skates.

If he clears, then it's decision time. Go to Bakersfield to mentor the yutes, or call it a career. Either way, he got more out his skill set than most who ever played in the NHL. - Alan Mitchell, Lowetide

While the possibility of a future call-up is still very much in the cards, Derek Ryan will look to mentor the future of the organization in Bakersfield.
