Edmonton Oilers scouts spotted in Philadelphia, Rasmus Ristolainen trade talks heat up

It was recently announced that the Edmonton Oilers signed defenceman John Klingberg to 1 year pro-rated contract worth $1 million, including a $350k signing bonus. While this strategic move by GM Stan Bowman has sparked some excitement in Oil Coutry, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli hints at bigger things to come on the blue line.
While Klingberg's addition to the blue line has sparked some excitement, the Oilers splashes are far from over.
Over the course of the 2024-25 season, the Oilers have been linked to Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen, and analysts around the league believe he's considered to be the Oilers next target.
Recently, scouts were spotted at the Flyers/Devils game, further emphasizing the Oilers interest in the Swedish defender.
Bob Stauffer brought up Philadelphia Flyers' defender Rasmus Ristolainen as a potential trade target. Stauffer's pick checks all the boxes for what the Oilers are looking for, which is a right-shot defender with experience who is under contract long-term.
As per Liam McCormick from Oilers Daily, Ristolainen was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 2013, first round 8th pick overall. Standing at six foot 4 and 208 pounds, the 29-year-old defender with certainly augment the Oilers defence as they hold some long-term injury reserve money.
While some fans have questioned his defensive game, Ristolainen could add some depth if placed in a sheltered role alongside Brett Kulak and provide value as more of a mentor for Emberson than someone who takes the ice time away.
It appears that GM Stan Bowman has his eyes set on acquiring all the top end Swedish talent in the NHL.
With the recent addition of John Klingberg, Rasmus Ristolainen could be another great addition to the blue line to help the Oilers get back to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.
