The Edmonton Oilers are dealing with the aftermath of an ugly 3-2 to loss at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks. While Connor McDavid and Conor Garland seem to be dominating the headlines, Tyler Myers is also being scrutinized for brutally cross checking Evan Bouchard in the face.

While the NHL ultimately suspended Tyler Myers for 3 games, the nature of his egregious attack has sparked some controversy amongst hockey enthusiasts.

With that being said, Tyler Myers finally opened up about the incident, providing an inexcusable explanation for the events that took place.

Tyler Myers admits that he missed

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, speaking to Canucks reporter Jeff Patterson after practice, Myers explained that he meant to cross check Bouchard in the body, but lost control of his stick.

Tyler Myers says his intent was to hit Bouchard lower but also knows he misfired. Sounds like he's ready to accept his punishment. Acknowledged that Bouchard didn't present a threat in that moment. Just a split second decision that went wrong

Myers even admits Bouchard wasn't even antagonizing, which makes the severity of his actions that much worse.

For such an unprovoked and forceful cross check to the face with intent to injure, Myers should've got more games. Saying he lost control of his stick is practically no justification too.

His unprovoked attack on Evan Bouchard has sparked some heated debate, raising the question: why was he given the same punishment as McDavid?

Claiming he misfired is utterly ridiculous, giving fans even more reason to question the NHL's decision-making in these situations.
