Breaking news in Oil country as Los Angeles Kings forward Adrian Kempe has been slapped by NHL Player Safety for a dirty slew-foot hit on Connor McDavid.

Yesterday, the Edmonton Oilers played an intense playoff style game against the Los Angeles Kings.

Although the Oilers emerged victorious by a score of 1-0, Adrian Kempe is in the proverbial hot-seat for an illegal hit on Connor McDavid.

Earlier today, the Oilers media submitted a complaint, highlighting the dangerous nature of Kempe's actions.

Upon review of the incident, NHL player safety have issued Adrian Kempe a max $5000 his actions.

For those who are unfamiliar with the term; slew footing occurs when a player uses a leg or a foot to knock, drag, or sweep an opposing player's feet from under them, or pushes another player's upper body backward with an arm or elbow and at the same time, with a forward motion of their leg, knocks, drags, or sweeps that player's feet from under them -- a nasty maneuver which often leads to injuries.

With just 11:30 left in the 3rd period, Connor mcDavid was playing the puck along the boards, when Adrian Kempe came up behind him, delivering a nasty slew foot which sent him flying head over heals.

Unbelievably, the officials didn't catch the play from Kempe and call it a penalty. It's appropriate that Player Safety picks up where the referees missed, and actually dish some punishment for a dirty play like this.

Thankfully, Connor McDavid wasn't injured on the play. However, the lack of penalty called shows just how much the NHL fails to protect its stars on the ice.
