The Edmonton have lost Darnell Nurse due to an injury sustained against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the team rolls the dice by re-calling Josh Brown from the minors.

It's no secret at this point that Darnell Nurse suffered a traumatic injury yesterday at the hands of Maple Leafs forward Ryan Reaves. Although no official health update has been issued, it's clear Nurse will be sidelined for at least a few games to recover from the incident.

Now, the Edmonton Oilers look to big Josh Brown to step in on the blue-line to provide some much needed relief.

The Oilers took a big gamble on bringing big Josh Brown, who's 6'5 frame was meant to replace the departed Vincent Desharnais. With that being said, Josh Brown performed so badly over the course of training camp, the Oilers sent him packing to Bakersfield to fine tune his game.

Brown posted some downright abysmal possession numbers over the past two seasons in a Coyotes uniform, only controlling 39.7% of expected goals when on the ice at even strength.

He does carry some special teams value, but even with receiving considerable time shorthanded, his low average ice time (14:45 last season) evidences how sparingly he's used at even strength.

The decision to recall Brown from Bakersfield is somewhat of a head scratcher, considering he was recently demoted to the Condors third line pairing.

Regardless, it's time for Josh Brown to step up and prove the Oilers organization they made the right decision by signing him to that $3 million dollar contract.

The Oilers continue their road trip and will look to bounce back against the Montreal Canadiens tomorrow night.
