Breaking news in the Edmonton Oilers organization as James Stefan has been relegated to the ECHL after an abysmal season with the Bakersfield Condors.

Here's a name Oilers fans will remember well...Patrik Stefan.
17 years ago, former 1st round pick Patrik Stefan sent shockwaves down the NHL after missing a wide open net, prompting one of the most iconic comebacks in hockey history.
While the Edmonton Oilers would go on to lose in a shootout, Patrik Stefan was shortly released by the Stars and would eventually fade away into the abyss.
Although no one ever heard from Patrik Stefan again, his son, James Stefan grew into a formidable hockey talent himself.
Ironically, James Stefan would end up in the Edmonton Oilers farm system, but things have taken an unfortunate turn for the son of the former 1st overall pick.

James Stefan relegated to ECHL

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Stefan showed some promising offensive skill in the WHL, and had the interest family history of pro hockey, but he clearly hasn't put it together at the professional level yet. With only 2 points in 33 games, a bump down to the ECHL may have been needed.
Beginning the season on the second line with the Condors, the team gave Stefan the opportunity to pick up his offensive game off the bat. Then, he was bumped down the lineup and healthy scratched before this roster move.
Now, after posting just 2 points in 33 regular season games, James Stefan will try to breathe life back into his career with a stint in the ECHL.
While it may still be too early to count Stefan out, he'll need to prove in the minors that he's still deserving of a shot at the pro level.
