Edmonton Oilers provide health update on newest acquisition

Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman made some big splashes a few weeks ago, claiming big Alec Regula off waivers from the Boston Bruins. Regula has yet to suit up in a game this season due to rehab from a knee injury, but head coach Kris Knoblauch has provided fans with some encouraging news.

According to Kris Knoblauch, there is no clear timeline for Regula's return, but he has been spotted on the ice testing his knee.

»He was on the ice today. He was skating, not with us. It's rehabs skates because he spent so much time not practicing. It'll take a while until he's back practicing with us.»

While he's nowhere near ready to skate with the team, it's definitely encouraging that Regula is starting to take reps on the ice.

Alec Regula is third-round pick (67th overall) by the Detroit Red Wings in 2018, Regula made his NHL debut as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2020-21 season. He was dealt to Boston in June 2023 along with Ian Mitchell in exchange for Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall.

Daniel Nugent-Bowman explains the reasoning behind the acquisition:

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, In 55 games with the AHL's Providence Bruins last year, Regula scored 4 goals, 26 points, and had an impressive +36 on ice rating.

Hopefully Regula can turn a corner in his recovery now that he's back doing on-ice activities, and can begin to showcase his talents for the Oilers.
