Jason Gregor who is a reporter covering the Edmonton Oilers has shared that he believes that NHL officials manage games to maintain parity.

This might explain the Oilers' lack of power play opportunities since the beginning of the season and why the fans are so angry about the NHL and their officiating.
"They like to officiate the games to keep them close. I'm firm believer in that.

The Oilers rank among the lowest in the league for power play opportunities and Gregor attributes this to the NHL's tendency to make the more equal possible the penalty calls between teams and it's limiting the Oilers' ability to be giving power-play.
Fellow analyst Tyler Yaremchuk notes that top teams typically receive favorable calls but suggests the Oilers don't get the same treatment because they aren't seen as «proven winners.»
Despite having limited chances, the Edmonton Oilers have the 8th-best power play in the NHL with a 23.9% efficiency.
Their next game is scheduled for tomorrow against the Buffalo Sabres and this will be the last game of the three-game suspension of Connor McDavid.
"Connor McDavid's the best player in the world. If the refs aren't going to stop this from happening, I'm fine with how 97 reacted. 100% fine with it."

Let's see how the Edmonton Oilers will play and if they are going to be able to win again without their star player.
