Evander Kane is currently one of the many Edmonton Oilers players rehabbing from injury, but new reports indicate that he could land himself on a new team upon his return.

Evander Kane is set to return in early 2025, but the Edmonton Oilers limited roster spots combined with Evander's $5.125M salary, it might make sense for Stan Bowman to explore his options.

As it stands, the Oilers roster is full, and its unclear where Evander Kane fits.

RNH - McDavid - Hyman
Podkolzin - Draisaitl - Arvidsson
Janmark - Henrique - Brown
Skinner - Ryan - Perry
Kapanen

Jeff Skinner is already having his talent wasted on the fourth line and playing depth minutes. Vasili Podkolzin is playing great, although not scoring much, for $4M less than Kane's salary. Last season, Evander Kane was mostly getting third line minutes - this season it looks like he would be a 4th liner.

Bringing Evander Kane back to the lineup comes with a certain degree of risk. By the time Evander makes his return, he will have missed half the NHL season, raising concerns about how he'll perform after such an extended absence.

Furthermore, GM Stan Bowman has been aggressively shopping around for a right-hand shot shut-down defenceman. With his current assets on hand, a blockbuster trade remains highly unlikely unless Evander Kane enters the fold.

It's tough to say what Kane's Kane's value is on the trade market right now,and the recent injuries combined with the high cap hit may make it a difficult sell for some teams.

Evander Kane was dealing with lingering injuries for the better part of last season, but he still managed to put up respectable numbers, scoring 24 goals.

Regardless, it's not the first time Evander Kane's name has surfaced in the trade rumour mill.

I think fans in Edmonton have grown rather fond of Kane, and the idea of trading him hasn't exactly drawn a ton of enthusiasm.

Although offloading his his $5 million dollar salary would greatly benefit GM Stan Bowman, it's hard to say at this point if Evander Kane remains an Oiler moving forward.
