Edmonton Oilers forward Jeff Skinner can't seem to catch a break this season. For the past few weeks, Skinner has been stuck in Kris Knoblauch's dog-house, struggling to get out the bottom-6.
Now, the NHL has fined Jeff Skinner for embellishment following an incident that occurred during the New York Rangers game.
According to the NHL, Skinner was issued a warning earlier in the season when the Oilers took on the Carolina Hurricanes. That first offense earned Skinner a warning, but the second brings with it an automatic $2,000 fine from the league.
Midway through the second period, Jeff Skinner was in a puck battle along the boards with Rangers forward K'Andre Miller.
Skinner utilized his body to protect the puck, where Miller wrapped his arms around Skinner to fend him off the puck.
Skinner's elbow latches down on Miller's stick, to make it appear as if he's being hooked. Skinner falls to the ice in an attempt to sell the penalty to officials. Miller was not penalized for the incident.
Jeff Skinner received his first warning from the NHL during a game against the Carolina Hurricanes early this season, but repeated his offence against the Rangers, forcing the league to take action.
Although Skinner was not penalized for embellishment during the play, the NHL issued him a fine upon further video investigation.
