Kris Knoblauch provides update on Troy Stecher after taking scary shot to the head
The Edmonton Oilers are coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss to the Las Vegas Golden Knights last night, but a scary scene emerged just minutes into the third period.
Edmonton Oilers defenceman
Troy Stecher was battling for body position in-front of the net, and he took a point shot from forward
Tomas Hertl directly on the ear.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Vegas forward
Keegan Kolesar was standing right next to Stecher, and immediately called to the bench for a trainer. The arena even audibly gasped, and it sounded like a player on the ice said «Oh my god».
Troy Stecher went down immediately, clearly in a significant amount of pain.
Fortunately, Stecher was able to skate off on his own two feet, forcing him to go down the tunnel for medical attention.
After the game, head coach Kris Koblauch made himself available for his usual post game interviews, providing fans an update on Stecher.
»I talked to him when we were walking off the ice and he said he's fine. He's got a little bandaid over his ear. I haven't heard from training staff. Sometimes I hear that from the players and it's a different story, but I think he's good.»
- Coach Knoblauch
It appears that Troy Stecher is going to be fine and will be available for Thursday nights game, but the team will be taking precautionary measures.
The scary scene gave fans flashbacks of Winnipeg Jets legend Bryan Little, who took a slap shot to the ear back in 2019.
Little took a slap shot to the ear from his own teammate, resulting in a perforated ear drum which ended his career.
The good news is - Troy Stecher is reportedly okay and will most likely be available for tomorrow's matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
