Edmonton Oilers defenceman Evan Bouchard is on his way to breaking the NHL record for shot attempts blocked, but assistant coach Paul Coffey is doing everything he can to stop that trend.

A few weeks ago, Edmonton Oilers Jason Gregor recently revealed on X (formally known as twitter that Evan Bouchard is currently on pace to break the NHL record for shot attempts blocked.

Bouchard, widely regarded for his signature "Bouch-Bomb" is struggling to get his shot through opposing defenders this season.

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, analyst Louie DeBrusk shared the story between Bouchard and Coffey on a recent podcast, saying that the team was aware of the record and wanted Bouchard to change course.

Bouchard hasn't had that same success so far this year, perhaps due to shot selection and the Oilers overall offensive decline, but Bouchard leading the league in shot attempts blocked was a troubling trend.

So far, Evan Bouchard a 8 points in 20 regular season games, and his production has taken a noticeable turn from last season.

Last season, Evan Bouchard was one of the best offensive defenseman in the NHL, surpassing the 100 point mark, earning him a a spot on the projected Team Canada roster ahead of the 4 Nation Cup.

With that being said, being on pace to break an NHL record like that isn't exactly a desirable one.

Although getting chewed out by Paul Coffey isn't exactly pleasant, it's nice to see the Oilers assistant coach go out of his way to ensure Bouchard stays on the right track.
