Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas has recently declared a state of emergency, stating his entire team is up for grabs except for Sidney Crosby.

It's no secret by now that the Edmonton Oilers are on the hunt for some defensive help, and they may have found their answer regarding Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Marcus Petterson.

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Matheson believes it will take a second round draft pick and another prospect to trade for Pettersson, but also that the Oilers would need salary retention to make the money work.

Pettersson is currently under contract for $4.025M. If the Oilers needed the Penguins or a third team to retain 50% of his salary, that would likely cost them another second or third round draft pick.

Although it's fairly common news that the Oilers are looking for a right handed shot defenceman, the emergence of Brett Kulak has been somewhat of a surprise this season.

According to Bob Stauffer, Brett Kulak could earn a promotion playing alongside Darnell Nurse on the team's second pairing, pushing Ty Emberson down to the 3rd pairing.

If the Oilers make a move on Marcus Pettersson, they'll solidify a formidable defence across all three pairings for their playoff push.

As it stands, Marcus Pettersson is up for grabs, and Stan Bowman as a prime opportunity to make a move.

By most scouting reports, Marcus Pettersson is a high-impact two way defenceman. The only drawback to his fit in Edmonton is the fact that he's a left handed shot, but that's why Knoblauch is playing Darnell Nurse on his off side at the moment. If it continues to work, the Oilers could trade for a left shot defenceman.
