The Oilers are enjoying a much needed 5 day break after a busy schedule, but a few members of the squad were missing from yesterday's practice.

The Edmonton Oilers have been plagues with injuries all season long, but now, the flu bug seems to be impacting the team.

According to Daniel Nugent-Bowman of the Athletic, neither Oiler missed practice for overly concerning reasons. Kasperi Kapanen was sorting immigration papers, and Derek Ryan was dealing with something that seems to have struck the whole team - and illness.

Then, Coach Knoblauch spoke to the media after yesterday's practice, and it became real obvious that a bug is spreading through the Oilers locker room. Knoblauch's voice is very obviously hoarse, and he looked to be battling to get through the interview.

Although Kasperi Kapanen's absence from practice was due to immigration reasons, the fact that Derek Ryan is sick is somewhat concerning for the team.

Before the Oilers played the New York Rangers on Saturday, Evan Bouchard was listed as a 50/50 game-time decision, and that was correlated to the flu circulating in the Oilers dressing room.

With that being said, the Oilers hit the road later this week, with their first ever game against Utah HC happening on Friday.

Utah HC is coming off a nail-biting 3-2 overtime victory against the Montreal Canadiens last night, and hopefully the team shakes off their flu symptoms before then.

This light break in the schedule could turn out to be a much needed boost for the Edmonton Oilers to rest and recover. Their injured forwards will get some no-pressure time off, and every other sick player will have some time to get better.
