Former Edmonton Oilers and fan favorite Sam Gagner is not ready to hang up his skates.

The forward has officially signed a professional tryout contract with the AHL's Belleville Senators and is hoping to restart his playing career.
Sam Gagner has last been in uniform in the NHL with the Oilers during the 2022-23 season and has faced a challenging road to be back to the NHL after being released from a tryout with the Carolina Hurricanes earlier this season.

Sam Gagner's perseverance was on fully shown recently when he suited up for Team Canada at the Spengler Cup and even if he did not play for any team in the first half of the season, his performance in the international tournament appears to have caught the attention of scouts.
He is now joining the Ottawa's AHL affiliate and Sam Gagner is expected to make an immediate impact as he enters the Belleville's lineup tonight.
His presence and offensive skills could be very valuable to a young team looking to make a push for the playoffs.
While the road back to the NHL may be really tough, it's not entirely out of sight and the Ottawa Senators could use additional depth in their bottom six, and this is why Gagner's experience and leadership might make him a valuable asset for a playoff push if he proves himself at the AHL level.
This latest opportunity represents more than just another chapter in his career, it's literally a sign of his determination and love for the game and if he did or did not make it back to the NHL, his journey will be an inspiration for players chasing their dreams.
Fans in Belleville and Edmonton will be watching closely as Gagner fights to keep his career alive.
