The Edmonton Oilers are currently making some significant roster moves as they have sent down defenceman Josh Brown in order to remain cap compliant.

The Edmonton Oilers sent shockwaves down the NHL yesterday, acquiring forward Kasperi Kapanen from the St. Louis Blues via waivers.

With that being said, the Edmonton Oilers scooped up Kapanen's $1 million dollar AAV per season contract, and GM Stan Bowman ultimately sent Brown to the AHL to remain cap compliant.

Josh Brown also made exactly $1M, and with this roster move, the Oilers will be back underneath the salary cap, with $304K in space.

The Oilers still have Evander Kane on the active roster instead of LTIR while they try to accrue as much cap space as they can through the season.

At the moment, PuckPedia has the Edmonton Oilers projected to have $1.4M in space at the trade deadline.

The Oilers took a big gamble on bringing big Josh Brown, who's 6'5 frame was meant to replace the departed Vincent Desharnais.

Josh Brown performed so badly over the course of training camp, the Oilers sent him packing to Bakersfield before the regular season even began.

The big defenceman had a short stint with the team during his call-up, playing in 2 respectable games -- he even got into a spirited scrap.

Keep your eyes peeled on Stan Bowman as insiders are predicting more significant roster moves in the coming days.

Now, the spotlight will be on the Oilers newest addition in Kasperi Kapanen, and if he can carve out a role for himself on the team, or fade out of the NHL.
