Evan Bouchard is set to become an RFA at the end of this season, and the Edmonton Oilers front office needs to start thinking about their next steps.

A few weeks ago, Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman did an interview with the Athletic's Daniel Nugent-Bowman, stating he's unsure if the Edmonton Oilers will re-sign Evan Bouchard

»We have had internal discussions. But as far as engaging with his agent, not really. Whether we will or not, I'm not sure. But he's playing better lately, too. He got up to a slow start, but it's nice to see his game rounding into form.»
-Stan Bowman.

Stan Bowman's comments have sparked some concern among the fan base, as they are uncertain whether the general intends to re-sign Evan Bouchard in 2025-26.

Edmonton Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson clears the air on Evan Bouchard's contract talk

Recently, Jeff Jackson sat down with Bob Stauffer to clear the air about Stan Bowman's comments, reaffirming the Oilers organization is fully committed to Evan Bouchard.

»We gotta get something done with Bouch at some point. Obviously I have a long relationship with Dave Gagner, his agent at some point when it's appropriate - you don't just say this is the day we're gonna negotiate, you're just talking along. We've been talking to Dave. Same thing with Connor.»

- Jeff Jackson

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, It's good to hear for Oilers fans that Jackson seems committed to a constant dialogue and retaining the young elite defenceman. Also interesting is Jackson highlighting his close relationship with Dave Gagner, the father of longtime Oiler Sam Gagner.

Evan Bouchard's price-tag is reported to be around the $10-11 million dollar range, but hopefully Jackson's longstanding friendship with Evan Bouchard's agent plays a role in a potential bargain.

Despite the recent remarks by Stan Bowman, the Edmonton Oilers will be looking to keep Evan Bouchard around for the long haul.
