According to Daily Hive, after being fired mid-season by the Oilers last season, Woodcroft has yet to be re-hired by an NHL team despite multiple vacancies coming and going over the last year.
He is set to appear on Jeff Marek's new podcast this week and now a new report from The Fourth Period has linked the Detroit Red Wings as a possible landing spot for the coach.
That is if the team opts to fire current head coach Derek Lalonde.
The Detroit Red Wings are currently sitting at a 10-11-3 record, and expectations were at an all time high after falling just one point shy of the playoffs last season.
After the Oilers historically bad 3-9-1 start last year, it became clear that the organization needed a new voice behind the bench.
As per Oilers Nation, by the time the Oilers played their 14th game in the 2023-24 season, they had already fired head coach Jay Woodcroft, replacing him with Kris Knoblauch, with that game being his first behind Edmonton's bench as they beat the New York Islanders 4-1.
The underperforming Red Wings may make a move at the head coach spot, and this could finally be Woodcroft's ticket back to the league.
Will Jay Woodcroft land a new job in the NHL? Time will tell.
