Sometimes, it takes a change of scenery to reach your full potential, and that's exactly the case for former Edmonton Oilers defenceman Jordan Oesterle.

Jordan Oesterle is a journeyman defender who's no stranger to being re-located.

The ex-Edmonton Oiler was acquired by the Boston Bruins during the NHL offseason, and he's finally earned his shot to play regular season games.

In 5 games with the B's so far, Oesterly has made a huge impression on the coaching staff, earning himself a promotion to play alongside superstar Charlie McAvoy -- an opportunity that would be foolish to squander.

Oesterle has only played five games this year but has quickly ascended the depth chart. In those five games, he has spent 65.7% of his time on the ice paired with McAvoy. He is averaging 18:02 of time on ice per game so far.

Although 5 games may be a small sample size to some, he's obviously earning the respect of Joe Sacco, the newly appointed interim head coach.

The fact that he's risen up the depth chart so quickly is an overall testament to his abilities, and he seems to be utilizing his veteran experience to his advantage.

On July 1st, he signed a two-year deal with the Bruins valued at $775,000 per season. He was brought in to provide depth to the team, so his ascension is a welcomed surprise.

With the recent coaching change, this situation should be monitored to see if Oesterle can maintain his current deployment.

Although this might be considered a fluke to some, it's still great to see a former member of the Edmonton Oilers thriving on a new team.
