Former Edmonton Oilers goalie's career spirals out of control as he's placed on waivers
Breaking news in the NHL as former Edmonton Oilers goaltender Jack Campbell has been placed on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings.
Former Edmonton Oilers goaltender Jack Campbell is having a tough go of things as of late. Unfortunately, Jack Campbell has been placed on waivers by Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman, and it's looking like his future in the NHL is coming to a end.
Campbell has been on a downward spiral since his stout service as Toronto's starter in 2021-22. He recorded 31 wins and a .914 save percentage in 49 games that year - both higher than any Leafs starter not named Frederik Andersen since 2010.
Campbell followed what seemed to be his breakout season by signing a rich deal with the Edmonton Oilers. But he'd quickly lose his grip, ultimately ceding the starting role to rookie Stuart Skinner after only posting 21 wins and a .888 save percentage in 36 games.

Although the details of his entry to the players assistance program aren't entirely clear, Jack Campbell has well documented mental health struggles.
During his tenure with with the Toronto Maple Leafs, it was reported that Campbell would get extremely down on himself, often publicly blaming himself for the teams poor performances.
Now, Jack Campbell finds himself placed on waivers. Due to his occupancy in the NHLPA's Players Assistance Program in addition to his overall decline in performance, it's highly unlikely Jack Campbell get's claimed a this point.
Jack Campbell is widely regarded as a great teammate with a positive presence in the locker room, making it tough to watch him struggle so much.
