Jeff Skinner breaks his silence after being healthy scratched
The Edmonton Oilers concluded their practice after a tough weekend of hockey, and Jeff Skinner broke his silence after being healthy scratched yesterday against the Anaheim Ducks.
Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch sent shockwaves down the NHL yesterday by sending forward Jeff Skinner to the press box during yesterdays game against the Ducks.
During practice today, Jeff Skinner was left off the starting roster, serving as the extra forward.
After practice, Jeff Skinner made himself available to the media, breaking his silence on being healthy scratched.
Jeff Skinner breaks down his current situation
REPORTER: Are you aware why you didn't play? Do you feel like Kris Knoblauch is communicating with you about what he wants you do to to get on the ice?
SKINNER: Yeah I think every player is aware of their role and what they need to do to be successful. He puts the best lineup out there to win a game, so, as a player you just do your job and that's what I focus on.
REPORTER: Was it surprising? (being healthy scratched)
SKINNER: I don't know, i've been around long enough to have a good feel for these kinds of things. Again, as a player, you just focus on working hard and doing your job, getting better everyday, and contribute to the team the best way you can.
Despite Skinner's efforts to mask his emotions after being benched, it's evident that he has been significantly affected by the situation.
According to Kris Knoblauch, Jeff Skinner doesn't have shot at cracking the top 6 unless another member of the team suffers an injury, or experiences a significant decline in performance.
For Skinner to regain his form, it seems unlikely to happen while playing on the fourth line with limited ice time, and a trade before the deadline appears to be on the horizon.
