Kris Knoblauch shares his perspective on Jeff Skinner's situation
The Edmonton Oilers just wrapped up a much needed practice session today after an abysmal weekend of hockey, but forward Jeff Skinner has landed himself under the microscope. After being healthy scratched during yesterdays game against the Anaheim Ducks, Kris Knoblauch kept him out of the lineup during practice, hinting at another stint in the press box tomorrow night.
While Knoblauch's decision to healthy scratch Jeff Skinner was somewhat surprising, it had been anticipated for some time due to his decline since the start of the season.
Kris Knoblauch comments on Jeff Skinner's situation
After today's practice, Kris Knoblauch made himself available for his usual interviews, providing fans some insight as to what Jeff Skinner needs to do to secure more ice-time.
"Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said Jeff Skinner can be put in a situation where he can succeed, playing with other players who would help his game. But a lot of it's just him finding his game and how he usually plays."

When asked if there are avenues to get Skinner more time in the top six, Knoblauch said it would primarily come down to 1) if the Oilers experience injuries or 2) if someone's play in the top six falls off (see Podkolzin/Arvidsson). Knoblauch also praised Kapanen, Janmark, Brown.

Kris Knoblauch offers a grim outlook into Jeff Skinner's future on the team. As it stands, Jeff Skinner doesn't have shot at cracking the top 6 unless another member of the team suffers an injury, or experiences a significant decline in performance.
For Skinner to regain his form, it seems unlikely to happen while playing on the fourth line with limited ice time, and a trade before the deadline appears to be on the horizon.
