It was was recently announced that the Edmonton Oilers signed defenceman John Klingberg to 1 year pro-rated contract worth $1 million, including a $350k signing bonus.

Now John Klingberg is getting acquainted with his new teammates and is regularly skating with the team.

John Klingberg to play against Detroit Red Wings

According to sources, John Klingberg will make Oilers debut on February 1st or earlier, says Coach Knoblauch. According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, a recent report from Oilers insider Bob Stauffer, Klingberg will make his debut with the team this upcoming Wednesday against the Detroit Red Wings.

The 32 year old Swedish defenceman used to be an all-star in the NHL by being one of the best offensive defenders in the league - with exceptional passing, shooting, and skating. His 412 points in 633 career games is very impressive for a defenceman.

According to the Athletic -- If healthy, Klingberg will help the Oilers in puck retrieval, expert passing and transporting the puck. He's big, strong and mobile but isn't a basher on defence. He has posted 11-42-53 boxcars per 82 games, with plenty of power-play success when he was at his peak.

John Klingberg is also coming off a hip resurfacing procedure which is notoriously difficult , so it should be interesting to see how he responds to the action after being sidelined for so long.

Additionally, Klingberg was rockin' the number 36 on his helmet, so fans now know what number he'll be wearing on the back of his jersey.

Regardless, I'm sure fans around the league will be tuning in to see how Klingberg performs.
