Philip Broberg shares love for fans, but they boo him anyway
The Edmonton Oilers are currently taking on the St. Louis Blues tonight, and the boo birds are in full swing at Rogers Place.
It's no secret that
Philip Broberg and
Dylan Holloway are making their highly anticipated return to Edmonton, and with it being Hockey Night in Canada, the stage is set for an epic matchup.
Before puck drop, the former Edmonton Oilers defenceman spoke in an interview, delivering a strong message for the fanbase.
«I've got nothing but love for the fans and the people of Edmonton.»
-Philip Broberg
Although Philip Broberg highlighted how much the fanbase means to him, his reception at Rogers place tonight hasn't exactly been a welcome one.
In the 1st period, Philip Broberg touched the puck for the first time, and Oilers enthusiasts filled the stadium with boo's, and reaction continued every time he handles the puck.
Although Philip Broberg's return to Edmonton has generated a lot of interest around the NHL, there's no denying that the relationship between the franchise and Broberg is far from warm.
Recently, Jeff Jackson revealed that the Edmonton Oilers failed Philip Broberg due to a systemic issue with their player development.
I think ultimately it comes down to the player just probably not having trust in the organization.
- Jeff Jackson
The practical reality is when you send a player to the minors for the third or fourth time in three years, they're not in the frame of mind to sign an extension at that point We didn't have a player development department, per se back then. There wasn't a plan»
- Jeff Jackson
Regardless, Both Broberg and Holloway are a combined -2 on the ice tonight, and I think Oilers fans are taking some comfort in that.
