Team Canada roster spot in peril for Zach Hyman

Next week, the Team Canada roster will be finalized ahead of the 4 Face-Off, and Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman finds himself in a bad spot.
Hockey enthusiasts around the globe are gearing up for the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament set to happen February 12-20, 2025.
The tournament will be split between Montreal and Boston, featuring Canada, USA, Sweden, and Finland.
With that being said, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is already a lock to make the team, but his line-mate Zach Hyman could potentially miss out.
Unfortunately for Zach Hyman, he's not producing at the level he was last season, and his spot on Team Canada's roster could be in jeopardy.
Furthermore, Hyman is currently dealing with an undisclosed injury and is expected to be sidelined for the next 5-8 days.
With the Team Canada roster set to be finalized next a week, timing couldn't be any worse for the Oilers sniper.
Hyman currently has just three goals through 20 games, a CN Tower-level drop-off for the Toronto native, who finished third in the NHL last season with 54 goals.
Coming into 2024-25, Hyman had averaged just a hair under 0.50 goals per game over three seasons with the Oilers. This season he's averaging only 0.15 goals per game, putting him on pace to score the fewest times since 2016-17, when he had 10 goals in 82 games with the Leafs.

Initially, four members of the Edmonton Oilers were in contention to make the team: Connor McDavid, Evan Bouchard, Zach Hyman, and Stuart Skinner.
As it stands, Stuart Skinner is a long-shot to crack the roster due to his inconstancies. Evan Bouchard is still a likely candidate, whereas Zach Hyman is currently sitting in limbo.
Has Zach Hyman's offensive struggles and injury woes impacted his spot on Team Canada's roster? Time will tell.
