Ex-Edmonton head coach has amazing opportunity to land new gig

The Chicago Blackhawks have sent shockwaves down the NHL this evening, firing head coach Luke Richardson.

To sum up the Chicago Blackhawks season so far -- abysmal is the word that comes to mind.
The Chicago Blackhawks currently sit dead last in the NHL, posting a 8-16-2 record, and their season has rapidly spiralled out of control.
Now, Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson has had enough, and Luke Richardson has found himself on the chopping block.

Now, a new opportunity for former Edmonton Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft has presented itself.

According to David Calabretta, Jay Woodcroft is one of the names that have emerged in the rumour mill.
"Aside from [Gerard] Gallant, other possibilities could be considered, such as former Edmonton Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft and perhaps even current Boston head coach Jim Montgomery, if the Bruins decide to let him go."

In parts of three seasons as a head coach, Woodcroft has an impressive 79-41-14 record. He's the former head coach of the Edmonton Oilers, and was able to find a good level of success during his 3 season tenure.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, He was a popular leader in Edmonton, and arguably only needed to be fired because the Oilers goaltending was so poor to begin last year.
However, once Knoblauch took over and turned things around quickly, it certainly didn't look too good on Woodcroft.
Jay Woodcroft has also reportedly generated some interest from the Detroit Red Wings, but the Chicago Blackhawks have now entered the mix as well,
