Hockey analyst Preston Hodgkinson reveals that Cody Ceci is ranked dead last in chances-against and high-danger chances-against.
Now, these advanced analytics are probably confusing to the average hockey fan. So, to put it into perspective -- Cody Ceci is being absolutely dominated when he's on the ice.
When Cody Ceci first started out the 2024-25 campaign with the San Jose Sharks, fans and executives we're praising for his sound play on the blue-line.
Initially, Ceci was playing 20+ minutes a night on the Sharks first defensive pairing, and GM Mike Grier went public, stating he'd like to re-sign Ceci when his contract expires at the end of this season.
Fast-forward 6 weeks later, Cody Ceci's game has gown downhill.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Ceci's abysmal results in San Jose show that Oilers fans were really right about the negative effect he was having on the team.
As it stands, I think the rumblings of bringing Cody Ceci back for a deadline transaction has now been muted.
Hopefully Cody Ceci will be able to turn his game around. If not, he could soon be facing a PTO situation next season.
