The Edmonton Oilers are gearing up for tomorrow's matchup against the St. Louis Blues, but there's an added layer of drama to the game.
It's no secret by now that the Edmonton Oilers lost
Philip Broberg and
Dylan Holloway over the offseason due to being offer sheeted by the St. Louis Blues.
Since then, Philip Broberg has emerged as one of the best blue-liners on the team, playing quality minutes in a shut-down role.
Although Broberg's departure from the team devastated the fanbase, Philip Broberg couldn't be happier with the change, as he openly admitted in a recent interview.
»It's tough to say. Obviously you want to play your best and play all the time, I guess. But I'm happy with the situation I'm in right now here in St. Louis.»
-Philip Broberg
Although Broberg somewhat sugar coated his statement, there's obviously no love lost between him and the Oilers franchise.
This is further emphasized by Oilers CEO
Jeff Jackson's recent comments, stating that the Edmonton Oilers failed Philip Broberg due to a systemic issue with their player development.
I think ultimately it comes down to the player just probably not having trust in the organization.
- Jeff Jackson
The practical reality is when you send a player to the minors for the third or fourth time in three years, they're not in the frame of mind to sign an extension at that point We didn't have a player development department, per se back then. There wasn't a plan»
- Jeff Jackson
While it's possible the Oilers failed Philip Broberg, he was given ample opportunities to secure a spot on the roster, but he couldn't solidify his role until it was already too late.
