The Edmonton Oilers are coming off a thrilling 6-2 win over the New York Rangers, and goaltender Stuart Skinner is quietly earning some respect back after a stellar performance.

Last night's game was arguably more entertaining than Connor McDavid's 1000 point milestone game against the Nashville Predators.

Although the Edmonton Oilers played without the likes of Zach Hyman or Viktor Arvidsson, the team looked engaged physically and offensively.

With that being said, you would be remiss not to acknowledge Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner's play between the pipes, who held strong with key saves throughout 60 minutes.

The 26-year-old goaltender stopped 32 of 34 shots for an excellent .941 save percentage (SV%). Skinner got a large chunk of that shot, but it still ended up in the back of the net. That's probably one he would want back, but other than that, he was great. He made the saves he needed to, controlled his rebounds, and also made some big saves to snuff out any chance New York had of coming back in the game.

Stuart Skinner has been taking some heavy heat as of late, mostly due to his inconsistent performance and allowing costly late 3rd period goals.

Recently, the Edmonton Oilers have been swirling in the trade rumour mill, with conversations surrounding a key trade to bolster their crease.

According Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, if the Oilers want to target a short-term addition in the crease to serve as a tandem goalie, Mackenzie Blackwood of the San Jose Sharks is on an affordable contract, having a great season, and is likely available for trade.

With that being said, if Stuart Skinner continues to play at this level, he might just remain the Oilers starting net-minder longterm.
