Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid just set up Zach Hyman for his first goal back from injury against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Edmonton Oilers are taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight, and Connor McDavid just blessed the fans at Rogers Place with a ridiculous feed to tie the game at one a piece.

at 9:46 in the 1st period, Connor McDavid received a fortunate bounce in the Blue Jackets zone, then flawlessly dangled around a defender, skating to the front of the net and setting up Zach Hyman for the easy tap-in goal.

This game tying goal by Zach Hyman had some extra significance to it, marking his first tally since returning from a 5 game absence.

Zach Hyman's goal also served as a statement after being left off Team Canada's roster ahead of the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament.

One can only assume that Connor McDavid had some extra juice flowing in his veins after being honoured for his 1000th point during the pre-game ceremony.

Joined by his family, McDavid was presented with a golden stick and commemorative Tiffany crystal for his accomplishment - and fellow Oilers players will present their captain with a gift from his teammates.

The ceremony will also included a special video tribute to mark the historic accomplishment.

To make matters even sweeter, Connor's dog, Lenny also made a special appearance during the ceremony.

Hopefully the Edmonton Oilers can generate some more offence heading into the second period.

On a side note, Oilers Central would like to tip their cap to captain Connor McDavid on his impressive 1000 point achievement -- well done!
