Jacob Trouba appears to be done with the New York Rangers, effective immediately
Breaking news in Rangers Nation as New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba is expected to be healthy snatched by the team tonight.
The New York Rangers are currently in a bind with Jacob Trouba, and general manager Chris Drury seems to making every attempt to relocate the disgruntled captain.
The other option for Chris Drury is to place Jacob Trouba on waivers, but it appears that Jacob Trouba's time playing for the New York Rangers has come to a bitter end.
Jacob Trouba has been on the trade block for quite some time -- but Jacob Trouba's personal life makes things rather complex.
Trouba, who has a year left on his contract at an $8 million cap hit, did not want to leave the Rangers this summer when general manager Chris Drury was looking to
alter the veteran core of the team. Trouba's wife, Kelly, is in the final year of her medical residency at a New York hospital and Trouba did not want to uproot her.
-The Athletic
When Trouba signed his seven-year, $56 million contract in 2019, it included a five-year no-movement clause that would end when his wife, Kelly Tyson-Trouba, completed her residency at a New York hospital.
Her residency was deferred for a year and is now scheduled to end on July 1, 2025.
With Trouba's wife's residency being deferred for another year, this enhances the complexities of a trade scenario being done.
In addition to his the recent birth of his son Axel, it appears that Jacob Trouba is opting out of a trade to support his family, forcing GM Chris Drury into an inevitable waiver situation.
With that being said, Trouba is off to one of his
slowest starts. So far, the Rangers captain has notched just 6 assists through 24 regular season games, posting a -3 rating on the ice.
